Curriculum

Here is a broad overview of the structure of our curriculum
At Ardgowan we teach from the NZ Curriculum (2007)

Our learning is divided into 3 broad areas:

  • Literacy and Numeracy form our core curriculum.
  • Social Science, Science, Technology, The Arts, Health and Physical Education and Maori form our integrated curriculum.
  • We have also developed special programmes to compliment the curriculum and meet the needs of our tamariki. These include Mindfulness, Keep it Green sustainability programme, special interests clubs and Circle Time.

There is a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy at all levels of the school. Oral Language, Reading, Written Language and Mathematics are taught as stand alone subjects but are also integrated into all other areas wherever possible.
Our school day is broken into 4 sessions. The 3 morning sessions are devoted to our core curriculum and the afternoon sessions are used for our integrated curriculum areas.
We work on cycles to cover all aspects of the curriculum which are currently being reviewed and updated.
